Yesterday, August 28, 2014, the Ohio Public Health Associations (OPHA) Board of Governors voted unanimously to create a chiropractic division within their business structure. The OPHA is a state organization and is affiliated with the American Public Health Association (APHA). According to the APHA Ohio is the first state to create a chiropractic division. The APHA has a chiropractic division within its organization; however, there is no other public health association across the country that has a state-based chiropractic division. This action is the accumulation of three years of work educating the OPHA on the similar goals chiropractic has with public health. The chiropractic division within the OPHA will be chaired by OSCA member, Dr. Eric Griffin, who will also now be on the Board of Governors for the OPHA.
We are excited about the array of opportunity’s that will come from this joint venture. This division will be responsible to advocate on behalf of chiropractic physicians before the OPHA Board of Director with ideas of how to use chiropractic as a way to accomplish the OPHA’s overall healthcare goals. Some of the first work of this division will be spinal care for children across the state of Ohio.
This is just continued proof that the OSCA is headed in the proper direction and that focusing on educating the public about chiropractic will work.
Stay tuned for many updates on the progress of this work.
