SecureCare:

We have had another busy two weeks. We had a number of meetings and exciting new developments.  You will see the current status below on our efforts.

CareSource:

We have sent over to the pilot project outline to CareSource. We received the following response immediately:

Thank you Bharon – nice work! I will circulate and discuss with our team and get back to you as soon as possible

We are hoping to hear from CareSource in the coming days.

Custom Design Benefits:

We had a call with more of CDB team members on the 18th. It was a good call that allowed us to further share the positive impact there would be CDB when working with SecureCare.  It was an engaging call that lead to a number of great questions.

There is another call scheduled for the 25th with the president of the company.  Still expect this to be a great relationship.

Ohio Health Choice:

Held a call with CEO of OHC on the 21st.  They are very interested in moving forward with a direct relationship. They have asked for a copy of the agreement and are looking into a number of protocols that would change when we are connected to them.  We are slated to have another face-to-face meeting on October 16th.

HealthSpan:

No update at this time.

Medical Mutual:

Had a face to face meeting with a vice president of Medical Mutual on the 15th.  It was a very good meeting and lead to another meeting being scheduled with the VP of Network development.  I feel we finally have someone on the inside that understands what we can bring to the table and will help keep it alive.   We are in the process of firming up the date of the next meeting but looks like it will be the week of October 19th.

Other Insurance News:

ICD-10:

In 8 days you are expected to submit all billing with the new ICD -10 codes.  Are you ready?  Here is a list of things that you should be doing by now!

  • Is your software ICD - 10 compatible?  If you don’t know, better find out. It should have been upgraded by now.
  • Contact your insurance carriers and see if they are ready to go by Oct. 1st.  Most are.
  • Medicare requests that all services performed from Oct. 1st on be ICD - 10.
  • Workers comp will give you a 90 day grace period.
  • Workers comp is making the conversions for you.  They say by Oct. 1st providers will have access to the updated ICD - 10 codes.
  • Begin dual coding NOW!  Start converting ICD - 9 to ICD - 10.  Make yourself a goal to get all files done by Oct.1st.
  • Your computer software may have built in conversion program to help you make the transition.  You may have to buy an upgrade for this.
  • Purchase the new ICD 10 coding books.
  • As an OSCA member you qualify for a discount from HJ Ross.  This is an online resource for all of your coding needs including ICD-10. It is $119 a year for unlimited access and support. This is less than the cost of 1 CPT code book.
  • Watch the webinar series on ICD - 10 on the OSCA website.
  • Make a list of your most common dx codes and create your own quick conversion sheet.
  • Is your documentation up to ICD -10 standards?  ICD -10 is much more detailed ( up to 7 digits ).  You may have to put more into your notes and exams.

Like anything, change can be hard to take.  Once you start making some conversions, it will be easier than you think.  It’s time to get your feet wet now and start converting!
