Saturday, October 10 ~ 8:30 - 11:30
Dr. Heidi Haavik
This two hour talk will cover, in a fun and entertaining way, the latest scientific understanding about the function of the spine and its impact on brain function. The complex neurophysiology will be presented in an easy to understand and clinically practical manner. The main focus of this talk is to educate practicing chiropractors, CAs and students about the basics of scientific investigation and to translate the relevant neurophysiolgocal studies for them, making it practical and relevant for them to their practice life. Dr Heidi Haavik will clarify what we as chiropractors can and cannot claim to help you thrive in an evidence informed world. Heidi will translate for you a variety of very relevant studies (covering both clinical and basic science research, and the difference between them).
From “Sitting is the new smoking” to “text-neck”, posture is a growing concern in our slumping society- and DCs can be the Posture Specialist for pain management, performance, wellness and active aging. First step is building posture consciousness with a digital photo. Next, posture focused therapy begins with reducing restrictions to movement with spinal manipulation (and possibly fascial and muscle work). As pain improves, the StrongPosture® exercises teach people to retrain neglected motion patterns towards symmetry. Focusing on posture control with Balance-Alignment-Motion (BAM) rehab protocols helps people help themselves with low-tech tools (eg balls, bands, foam pads, etc). By engaging people to retrain muscle and joint awareness, with improvement they become more posture aware of the importance of unlocking motion restrictions with spinal manipulation and StrongPosture® to move, feel and be well.

Let’s face it, to be successful in practice your treatment has to work! How many times have you delivered the perfect adjustment, just to find those same subluxation patterns come back over and over again? In school we were taught all about the importance of the viscero-somatic reflex, but not really how to address it.
During this seminar you will learn a systematic and objective approach to viscero-somatic reflex subluxations and how to identify key organ system nutritional deficiencies.
Chiropractic care accompanied by the appropriate nutritional support allows us to accomplish great things! During this seminar you will learn how to quickly and easily implement effective nutritional therapy in even the busiest of practices.
Attendees will gain nuts and bolts information about presenting their care plan recommendations without any hard-close tactics. State and Federal compliance issues regarding payment plans, credit card auto-pay programs and discounts will be discussed.
Immediately applicable, these tools will help the office of today streamline the systems in their practice.
Additionally, the steps to creating legal & compliant financial care plans that patients say “yes” to will be reviewed. Instruction will include creating a variety of plans that include cash and insurance. The importance of offering patients care plans as well as how to allow the patient to continue with their treatment plan even if their limited insurance benefits are exhausted will be discussed. Ultimately the goal is to help the doctor and patient reduce their dependence on insurance reimbursement.

A Streamlined Method to be Worth More to the Practice
Have you ever wondered how to get a raise without ever asking for it? Believe it or not your doctor will pay you more before you have a chance to ask for it. How does this happen? You need to create the situation that they would pay anything to keep you. This is a reality and I will teach you how. You will be the driving force of growth and be happier doing it. Connecting to your true purpose and knowing the business are the keys to your wealth and happiness. In this two hour course we will be covering the key steps to not only loving your role in the office but excelling at it.
An Introduction to Post Surgical Spine Rehab is a 2 hour presentation that will introduce the attendee to the concepts behind rehabilitating a patient who has recently undergone minimally invasive spinal surgery. This lecture covers the essentials of the much broader 12 hour seminar on Post Surgical Spine Rehab (PSSR) co-sponsored by the American Chiropractic Association and the Laser Spine Institute that Drs. Simon, Petruska and Gross are presenting at Laser Spine Institute Centers in various cities all over the country including Tampa, Scottsdale, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City, Cincinnati and St. Louis.
This introduction will explore the historical evolution of spinal surgical procedures from open back surgeries to minimally invasive spinal surgery (MISS) procedures such as the foraminotomy, laminotomy and endoscopic discectomy to minimally invasive stabilization (MIS) procedures such as the PLIF (posterior lumbar interbody fusion) and the ACDF (anterior cervical discectomy fusion). The indications and contraindications for the above surgical procedures will also be discussed. Additionally, before post surgical rehab is commenced, the determination of medical clearance protocols will be delineated and medical clearance forms will be explained.
Finally, functional exam procedures will be summarily outlined to determine the functional status of the post operative patient which will then largely determine what type of rehabilitative procedure is most appropriate for the patient. Common post surgical rehab protocols will be presented and briefly demonstrated.
