Dr. Corey Campbell
Functional assessment of the runner requires an understanding of crucial joint mechanics and the ways dysfunction can manifest in the kinetic chain. Functional Assessment of the runner aims to discuss the rationale and techniques for motion palpation of key joints in association with functional screening associated with assessing the running athlete.
The class will begin by laying the foundation with running gait biomechanics, statistics on running and discussion of common running injury conditions that the DC will encounter treating these athletes. There will also be discussion of shoe wear and some of the misconceptions about shoe wear and how to address these with your patients. Marketing to the runner and various application of the information in the class will also be shared.
The class will also discuss the concepts and rationale for functionally assessing the running athlete, and the various ways to do just that. Then the class will look at the various ways the DC would integrate the combination of these two ways to assess the runner to give the DC a very comprehensive, functional understanding of the dysfunction the runner presents with. Finally, this class will discuss and demonstrate how to apply treatment techniques based off the findings acquired to give the DC an integrated and comprehensive approach to not only assessing but also treating the runner.
