Speaker:
Dr. Dan Murphy, DC, DABCO

Life Chiropractic College West

Course Description:

This presentation is exciting, informative, scientific, and practical for all chiropractors. It involves an amalgamation of a number of concepts: chiropractic history, early anecdotes, modern science, and an integration of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology.

The goal of the presentation is to answer this question: Why are we adjusting the patient and what is the adjustment really doing?

I will answer the question by exploring the pathophysiological inflammatory cascade to tissues, including chronic stress, trauma, infection, and autoimmune responses.

I will then integrate these tissue changes into the concepts of mechanobiology, tensegrity, and mechanoneurology.

I will then extend mechanoneurology into spinal cord reflexes and to suprasegmental relays.

I will discuss how these integrated neurological concepts influence pain perception as well as visceral physiological relationships.

I will discuss types of nerve interference, from compressive neuropathology to denervation supersensitivity, and how the goals of chiropractic management would vary based upon this understanding.

I will explore the relationships between the way the human lives, exists and functions in a gravity environment, the subluxation, and the goals of chiropractic clinical management.

I will integrate contemporary health care concepts including pain, immunology, telomeres, epigenetics, and methylation.

I will mention other health care disciplines and how their approach to management interfaces with the traditional chiropractic approach. I will engage in an interactive neuroanatomical model of the chiropractic adjustment. I will end by reviewing scientific studies that support the concepts covered, and I will make suggestions as to needed future chiropractic research.
